2016 Whale Entanglements Off U.S. West Coast Break Record for Third Year in a Row

SEAFOODNEWS.COM [ SeafoodNews ] - March 30, 2017

NOAA Fisheries reports 71 separate cases of entangled whales last year, the highest annual total for the West Coast since the federal agency started keeping records in 1982.

Of the 71 cases reported, 48 were confirmed by NOAA and 59 cases remain “outcome unknown”. Five entanglements were well-documented cases of full release, two of gear being removed but...
