Scallop Prices Up 10% in Tokyo

Tokyo - Scallop prices continue to climb here due to poor domestic catches, declining production in China and rising global demand.
Raw scallops were recently fetching around 4,000 yen ($35) per kilogram at Tokyo's Tsukiji fish market, 10% higher than a year earlier.
China, one of the largest consumers of the shellfish, has seen a drop in the seaweed used as scallop feed due to pollution. Developing scallops were packed more densely in an effort to improve aquafarm productivity...
