Record Prices and Global Demand for Chilean Sea Bass Lead Importers to Worry Market Share

With Chilean Sea Bass (Toothfish) wholefish selling for over $15 per lb. this year, importers are growing concerned that the fish may price itself out of its primary markets. Some have recently begun recommending cuts in portion sizes to high-end chefs to no more than 6 oz. in order to keep it on the menu.
Frozen Chilean Sea Bass prices in the US market are at record high levels this year as demand for the fish is strong while global are supplies tight in 2016.
Average Urner Barry prices for frozen Chilean Sea Bass H&G wholefish were up 21 percent in November. Frozen 6-8 kg wholefish prices averaged $15.12 per pound--a new record high price...
