MPEDA sets Plan to Start Hatchery, Expand Tilapia Production in India

MPEDA is declaring new tilapia zones in India.
With growing tilapia farming across the east coast, the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) is planning to declare Krishna and West Godavari districts Tilapia fish zones. This declaration allows the development of tilapia farming in these areas, and encourages farmers to take it up.
Tilapia has a good demand in the international market and is the second largest farmed fish across the world.
Speaking on this, MPEDA official said that tilapia can survive in high temperatures, requires less investment, gives high yield and depends on agriculture waste in ponds, corn and other preservatives.
