Oceana Proposes 24% Quota Cut to Chile's Jack Mackerel Catch with Stock in Decline

Oceana is recommending a 24 percent cut to Chile's jurel, or horse mackerel, catch after a survey of the fishery found evidence that the stock is in collapse.
The proposed catch reduction would slash the quota by 110,000 tons to 350,000 tons for the Chilean fishery. Oceana said this could rebuild the resource 30 percent by 2035.
Chile's Jack mackerel fishery is worth about $123 million annually. Part of the catch is used in fishmeal, but a majoriy of the fish are sold frozen or canned for export...
