Alaska Salmon Catches Statewide Exceed 256 Million Fish

As coho salmon season comes to an end in most areas of Alaska, the 2015 season is emerging as the second highest in recent memory, by volume. Low prices in Bristol Bay shift total values downward, but still put 2015 in the top five seasons.
Statewide totals of more than a quarter of a billion salmon were made up of 183.5 million pink salmon, 53.1 million red or sockeye salmon, 15.8 million chum, 3.6 million coho, and half a million chinook salmon.
Prince William Sound shattered its 2013 record of 91 million pink salmon with this year’s catch of more than 98 million pinks.
Copper River reds were a different story, with only 1.6 million from the Copper River and 1 million from Eshamy in Prince William Sound. Adding the other areas in PWS with sockeye landings brought the total for PWS to 3.1 million sockeyes.
All told, Prince William Sound fleets landed more than 104 million salmon this year....
