United Nations and OPEC Project Plans to Increase Shrimp Production in Central and South America

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) have partnered to improve shrimp production and value in Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico and Nicaragua.
An agreement was reached between UNIDO and OFID this week in Vienna to provide $300,000 in grant funding for the project. Altogether the supply chain improvement program is valued at $900,000. The project will benefit actors in the various segments of the shrimp value chain in all participating countries, particularly small shrimp farmers, shrimp cultivating companies, input and feed providers, processors, transporters and marketers contributing to value chain-based competitiveness and enhanced productivity.
