Thousands of fishing boats are stuck in port in Thailand, after new rules aimed at combating illegal fishing took effect July 1, leading to concerns about tighter seafood supplies and higher prices.
Many seafood markets, including the two largest in the provinces of Samut Songkhram and Samut Sakhon, are set to close temporarily, starting Saturday, as they will have nothing to sell, said Monkol Sukcharoenkana, vice president of the Thailand Fishery Association.
Fish markets mainly sell to domestic processors, restaurants, retailers and consumers...
