Kodiak Trawlers ask Council for Emergency Action on GOA Closure, Say Chinook are Hatchery Fish

The groups representing Kodiak trawlers - th Alaska Whitefish Trawlers Association (AWTA), Alaska Groundfish Data Bank (AGDB) and the Midwater Trawlers Cooperative (MTC), have asked the N. Pacific Council for emergency relief.
These three organizations represent the vast majority of trawl catcher vessels that have delivered non-pollock groundfish into the community of Kodiak for many decades and all Kodiak trawl dependent shorebased processors. They are all impacted by the premature closure of the Gulf of Alaska to non-pollock groundfish sector on May 3rd.
The closure has stranded approximately 19,511 metric tons of groundfish..
