Customs Strike Wrecking Havoc for Chile's Salmon Exporters; Losses Already Estimated at $30 Million

On Monday Chilean Customs workers rejected a labor deal offered by government officials, continuing a strike that started last week over pay and staffing issues. The ongoing work stoppage has now resulted in tens of millions dollars in sales losses for fresh salmon exporters according to trade association SalmonChile.
The National Association of Customs Officers (ANFACH) rejected the government's proposal that would have added 250 works to the Customs workforce. ANFACH, however, had requested 800 workers be added to their existing staff among other demands.
Last week Chilean Customs workers walked of the job seeking better pay and more staff. The work stoppage has paralyzed most of Chile's import and export operations...
