Chinese Tilapia Processors in Guangdong Want to Raise Export Prices

Some Chinese processing plants in Zhanjiang, Guangdong have agreed to raise their retail prices of tilapia products to around US$1.9 to US$1.95 per pound from April 25 to May 10.
The price increase was proposed during a meeting of the Zhanjiang Association of Aquatic Products Import & Export, according to Cen Jian, the general secretary of the association. The meeting was attended by the local processing plants as well as those from other areas like Guangxi and Hainan. The attendees suggested increasing the prices of tilapia products to between US$1.9 to US$1.95 per pound in consideration of the current industry situation. The farmers can survive a down market only when the processing plants are able to earn their living the association said.
