Gulf Shrimp Haul Up 5% in Q1 as PUD Prices Continue to Sink with Supply Ample Ahead of 2015 Season

Gulf of Mexico shrimp landings were up about 5 percent through the first quarter this year compared to 2014. Catches did slow in March providing some evidence that 2014/15 fishing season has finally reached its conclusion after a late season haul helped keep inventories well-supplied and PUD market prices lower.
In March Gulf shrimpers landed 1.6 million pounds of shrimp, a sharp 45 percent decline from February landings. Still, the season had produced a late surge in landings in December, January and February. By the end of the 1Q the Gulf haul was up about 400,000 pounds compared to last year at 7.9 million pounds...
