GAA Says Fair Labor Practices is Key Component of the BAP Certification Program

The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) reiterated its commitment to social justice as one of the key goals of its BAP certification program following another round of allegations of rampant labor abuse practices in Thailand's seafood supply chain.
According to the GAA it is fully committed to work with its clients to ensure the seafood sourced from overseas suppliers meets "standards for adequate wages, a safe and healthy working environment and the prevention of child labor and forced labor."
"For example, GAA is working collectively with IFFO, Lyons Seafoods Co., Wm Morrison Supermarkets, Tesco, Waitrose, M&J Seafood/Brakes Group and Direct Seafood to address the social concerns related to aquafeed production, agreeing to a position statement last year," the GAA said in a statement...
