Sitka Herring Roe Fleet Takes Quota in Seven Days
Exactly one week after the Alaska Department of Fish and Game opened the sac roe fishery in Sitka, the seine fleet landed the 8.712 ton guideline harvest.
The Sitka Sound sac roe herring fishery closed at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday March 25 for the remainder of the 2015 season. On March 25, the fishery was open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. By 6:00 p.m. the guideline harvest was reached.
The fishery was conducted every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout areas of Sitka Sound in a cooperative effort that kept most of the fleet tied up while designated boats seined.
By March 22, 6,800 tons had been caught.
