Red Meat Values Pressured Last Week; Chicken Complex Saw Modest Rise

Urner Barry's Choice beef cutout, which represents a composite value of the carcass based upon prices paid for primal cuts, fell 0.15% last week, while Select fell 0.09%. Slaughter levels were lower as packers attempted to improve margins.
The pork complex saw another week with large slaughter figures, allowing for supplies to remain in excess availability. The pork carcass cutout value was nearly flat, falling just $0.169/cwt on the week. Packer margins remained in the double-digits, supporting the higher production levels.
