Fire Destroys Breakwater Fisheries Crab Plant on Northeast Coast of Newfoundland

A major fire has destroyed the Breakwater Fisheries crab plant in Cottlesville, on the northeast coast of Newfoundland.
“Breakwater Fisheries is the biggest employer in our area. It’s a major blow. It’s devastating to this area,” he said, adding in high season up to 200 people from the area work at the plant.
The New World Island community of Cottlesville has about 300 residents living in 127 houses.
“I’ve spoken to a lot of residents, and it hasn’t really sunk in yet, I don’t think. People are really upset. You know, it is their place of employment,” said Wheeler.
Many people from neighbouring communities also worked at the plant, which has been there for more than 30 years...
