Atlantic Scallop Season Opens March 1st with Temporary Rules; Projected Landings are 47 Million Lbs

The Atlantic scallop season opened March 1st. Although the new fishing year has begun, the New England Fishery Management Council is still awaiting NMFS final action on the new management plan, called framework 26.
As a result, interim rules will remain in place until May, until NMFS final approval of the new plan.
For the 2015-2016 fishing year, possession limits per trip will increase to 17,000 lbs per trip. But for the first 60 days of the season, the old rules will govern, limiting landings to 12,000 lbs. ...
