Lower Production Impacts Last Weeks' Beef, Poultry Markets; Weather Issues Ripple Through Seafood

Last week's Choice beef cutout, which represents a composite value of the carcass based upon prices paid for primal cuts, was up 0.27% from the previous week. A slightly weaker tone early on eventually firmed up as the week progressed. Some packers cut hours from their production schedules in an attempt to support beef prices and improve operating margins, which have been well in the negative for some time.
Urner Barry's pork carcass cutout declined 0.6% last week, as production levels are significantly high for this time of year. Exports remained sluggish and hog weights are up as well, contributing to the downward pressure on the market...
