KOCHI: After record production of farmed vannamei shrimps, which helped boost India’s seafood exports in the current fiscal year, the industry is expecting a shortfall next year because of the risks from a disease that some farms have reported in recent weeks.
Seafood exports for the nine months through December 2014 grew 14% in value, said industry executives though official figures are yet to be out. India’s marine products exports between April and December are estimated to be close to Rs 25,000 crore. In the fiscal year ended March 2014, export totaled at 30,213 crore.
