Delhaize's U.S. Operations Posted 12 Percent Quarterly Sales Gain, Helped by "53rd Week"

Food retailer Delhaize Group reported stronger-than-expected results for its key operations in the U.S. on Monday, helping to offset poor performance at its strike-ridden operations in Belgium.
The Brussels-based retailer said revenue was $6.5 billion in the last three months of 2014, an 11.4% increase compared with the same period a year earlier.
In the U.S., Delhaize’s most important market, sales rose 12% to $4.7 billion, as its Food Lion and Hannaford chains managed to weather rising food costs.
The biggest revenue driver was a week of extra sales.
