Former Alaska Department of Fish and Game Commissioner Cora Campbell has been named the new chief executive officer of Siu Alaska Corp. on Feb. 1, replacing the recently retired John Eckels.
Siu, a subsidiary of the Norton Sound Economic Development Corp., is invested in six commercial fishing ventures in the Bering Sea.
Through her time on the North Pacific Fishery Management Council, Campbell is knowledgeable of the work of NSEDC and the CDQ program itself.
"With her experience with the state of Alaska, she is familiar with the CDQ program and understands the communities in the Norton Sound region," said Don Stiles, chairman of the Siu board. "Her extensive knowledge of state and federal fisheries, as a whole, will no doubt strengthen and bring solid vision to our corporation."
Now residing in Anchorage, Campbell will focus on becoming familiar with Siu's investments and partners, and working with the Siu board to lead the company in its future endeavors.
Campbell will work from the company's Anchorage office for two months with Eckels, who will officially retire in March. Eckels has led the company since its beginnings six years ago.
