Project to introduce Atlantic sea scallops into China to supplant Yesso scallops makes headway

A professor from Qingdao Agricultural University helped commercialize the technology for growing Atlantic deep-sea scallops in China.
Recently, Dalian City Oceanic and Fishery Administration has organized a team of experts to examine the project of Professor Wang Chunde from the Marine Science and Engineering College of Qingdao Agricultural University. Professor Wang’s project is the research of Atlantic deep- sea scallops’ species introduction, seedling cultivation along with aquacultural technologies.
This project has been appraised to be the first one of this area in China and it has met the International advanced standards.
Atlantic deep-sea scallops are the large cold water scallops, originating in the North Atlantic. Their length can reach as long as 25cm, while their individual weight can even be over 500g. They are renown high-quality scallops sold at a high price thanks to their unique flavor of the North Atlantic deep-sea seafood.
