First New England groundfisheries enter MSC assessment with Cape Ann Seafood Exchange

Gloucester's Cape Ann Seafood Exchange (CASE) took another step in trying to boost Acadian redfish consumption in the US, this time serving as the client sponsoring the fishery's assessment against the Marine Stewardship Council's standard for responsible fisheries. The MSC assessment will also cover haddock and pollock, which along with redfish have healthy stocks on Georges Bank and the Gulf of Maine.
The Exchange is the successor to the Gloucester Seafood Display Auction and owned by specialty seafood company Zeus Packing. Prior to the MSC announcement Zeus and CASE were the only New England winners of Saltonstall Kennedy (SK) funds in 2013. They won a $361,670 federal SK Grant intended to develop a market for locally caught redfish...
