MPEDA says India's Andrah Pradesh region can become a global force in farmed tilapia production

Andhra Pradesh, which is a leading producer and exporter of shrimp in the country, has great potential to top the list in the production of freshwater fish, particularly Tilapia, one of the most popular seafood commodities in the world.
The state is a leading producer of shrimp with 60 to 65 per cent and has more than two thirds share in aquaculture exportsin the country. However, the production of fish at commercial level for exports is not happening in the state and focus has been largely on shrimp.
Now, Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) is making efforts to popularise Tilapia production and encourage aqua farmers in the state to take it up...
