With marketing levy approval, PEI's lobstermen set out to build brand in Chinese, EU markets

The P.E.I. Fishermen’s Association, especially its lobster fisher members, has achieved a number of positive breakthroughs in recent days. Voting has been completed and ballots tabulated on the lobster marketing levy with an overwhelming two-thirds support. This sets the stage for a major marketing campaign and moves fishermen one step closer to setting up a powerful marketing board lobby.
As north shore fisherman Peter Boertien proudly points out, it was the populous LFA 24 zone between East Point and North Cape which voted solidly in favour of the levy months ago, taking an early, pro-active approach and grabbing the leadership role on the issue among Island fishermen. Delays in holding a vote were actually in LFA zone 26(a) from Souris to Victoria and the fall zone LFA 25 district from Victoria to North Cape.
