Lack of freezer capacity in Vladivostok threatens herring fishery, cold stores nearly full

Russia is experiencing a shortage of refrigerated storage capacity for fish which is the result of the activities of market speculators, according to German Zverev, President of Russian Pollock Association.
According to him, the current situation remains very complex, due to the start of the herring fishing season in the country and the inability of Vladivostok to provide fish storage capacity, which is currenly estimated at only 4,000 tonnes
According to the Russian Federal Fishery Agency (Rosrybolovstvo), total storage capacities of the Primorye seaports are currently estimated at 69,150 tonnes, which are currently filled by about 52,200 tonnes of fish (75.5% of total capacity).
According to predictions of Rosrybolovstvo, the total volume of herring catch in Russia this year is expected to reach 450,000 tonnes, of which about 350,000 tonnes will be Pacific herring.
According to state plans, this will help to compensate for a lack of herring imports to Russia, which were banned by the Russian government and which had a total volume estimated at about 100,000 tonnes...
