South Carolina commercial shrimp fishing off to better start as industry gets past disastrous 2013

Early reports of the fall crop from commercial and recreational shrimpers is better than last year, but that's not necessarily good news.
"Last year was one of the worst ever," said Larry DeLancey, of the S.C. Department of Natural Resources. The fall crop of shrimp arrived late, in September, for commercial shrimpers, he said. Prices remain above $10 per pound for bigger shrimp at the retail market.
"All of our areas have some shrimp. It hasn't been a great year. It definitely slowed up this week," said Rutledge Leland, of Carolina Seafood in McClellanville. Both he and DeLancey said the crop was poorer farther south. In Georgia, boats have quit going out, Leland said...
