Chile exported 52,077 tons of mussels in Jan-Aug

In the first eight months of the year, Jan-August, Chile exported 52,077 tons of mussels (Mytilus chilensis), a rise of 1.8%, compared to the same period a year ago.
However in dollars the result was 154.3 million dollars, up 5.9% compared to the 145.7 million dollars of the eight months of 2013. Meanwhile northeast Spain mussel farms continue to be ravaged by the red toxin algae.
St Andrews Smokey Delicacies remains the leading Chilean exporting company with 8.052 tons of mussels totaling 22.5 million dollars. Blue Shell followed with 6.486 tons and 18.6 million dollars and Cultivos Marinos del Pacífico, 5.592 tons and 15.5 million dollars.
