Fundy lobstermen from Alma NB honored with all night party before 0300 departure tomorrow
SEAFOODNEWS.COM [CBC] - October 13, 2014 -
Lobster fishermen will depart the wharf in the southeastern New Brunswick community of Alma Tuesday morning after a major send-off — an all-night party.
Jane Chrysostom, one of the organizers of the Alma Fleet Launch Festival near Fundy National Park, says the event is a celebration of the fishing families and the dangerous, unpredictable work of the fishermen.
The Bay of Fundy tides make fishing out of Alma more difficult than other places. Fishermen can only go out and return with high tide.
The festivities begin with a free concert at 7 p.m. Monday at the Molly Kool Centre in Fundy Park and continue with food and entertainment, including a big breakfast. Village church bells ring at 2:30 a.m., just before the fleet goes out at 3:00 a.m.
