Newfoundland's crab and turbot producer Torngat Fish Co-Op gets provincial funding to grow operation

Newfoundland's provincial government has provided funding for Torngat Fish Producers Coop in Makkovik to upgrade its crab and turbot processing.
According to Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Keith Hutching, his administration will provide $9,332 to help the Torngat Fish Producers Cooperative Society Limited (Torngat Fish Co-op) seek ways to increase efficiency and output at its crab and turbot plant in Makkovik.
The Co-op said it will use the funding to make improvement to its processing operations using new technology to make the plant more competitive.
“The Torngat Fish Co-op greatly appreciates the Provincial Government’s support for our efforts to make our crab and turbot plant as efficient and competitive as possible. This funding will make it possible to avail of the Marine Institute’s expertise as we seek out opportunities to make our operations stronger for the future," said Keith Watts, General Manager at the Co-Op.
