Russia may ban Japanese drift-netting off Kamchatka after another round of sanctions is levied

Russia is considering imposing a ban on Japanese drift-net fishing in its exclusive economic zone after another round of sanctions were announced by Western countries on September 12 according to Ilya Shestakov, head of Rosrybolovstvo.
Boris Nevzorov, deputy chairman of the Committee of the Food and Agricultural Policy and of the Russian Council of Federation, said Japan is actively imposing sanctions against Russia but at the same is conducting a large-scale driftnet fishing operation in Russian waters off the coast of Kamchatka.
He said Russia allows Japan to conduct drift-net fishing in its waters, despite the potentially negative consequences associated with such type of activities. In 1960 large-scale drift-net fishing in the USSR led to a sharp drop in catches off Kamchatka and the collapse of many local fish processing enterprises Nevzorov said...
