Fraser River sockeye run revised downward

The in-season forecast for the size of the Fraser River sockeye run dropped by almost 10% after salmon managers reviewed migration and timing data earlier this week.
The Fraser River Panel met Tuesday, September 9 to review updated information on the migration conditions in the Fraser River watershed. The estimate for the summer-run size dropped from 8.2 million fish to 7.8 million fish. The late-run estimate dropped from from the pre-season median forecast of 12.73 million to 10.8 million.
The current in-season estimate for the size of the Fraser sockeye run is 20.734 million fish, 2.12 million fish less than the pre-season estimate of 22.854 million.
About a third of the run has already been landed. As of September 9, seiners landed 3.439 million, gillnet boats took 2.437 million, and troll landed 264,600 sockeye, for a total Fraser catch of 7.6 million fish...
