Salmar puts plans for Chilean salmon venture on hold citing production cost and output concerns

Norwegian salmon producer Salmar will hold off on its plans to set up production operations in Chile. The company said higher production costs from disease in recent years along with estimations that Chilean production is now on a slower upward expansion compared to Norway were responsible for the decision.
Salmar's CEO Leif Inge said Salmar is still interested in setting up shop in Chile --particulary now that the country's salmon export market see more business in the Russian market-- but will delay any possible merger or alternative venture until production costs related to new disease protocols level off...
