Some Norwegian pelagic factories close after Russian ban, Government to give export guarantees, money

Lofoten Viking, a herring producer who specialized in sales to Russia, shut down their factory and laid off 40 people after the Russian ban on seafood imports from Norway. "I have been involved in selling pelagic fish to Russia since it became law after the Iron Curtain fell in the 90s, but I've never run into a more serious situation than this. It is obvious that this situation can have very serious consequences for Norwegian export of herring, mackerel and capelin to Russia", says CEO Arne Mathisen for Today's Market.
Meanwhile, at an industry government meeting at the end of last week, the Norwegian government agreed to expand export guarantees to other markets...
