Clean Seas searching for backer to fund reboot of southern bluefin tuna breeding program

Clean Seas Tuna hopes to lure a financial partner, casting its net out as far as Indonesia to reboot its stalled southern bluefin tuna breeding program.
The company, based at Port Lincoln not far from the Great Australian Bight, suspended the program indefinitely in 2012 after racking up losses of tens of millions.
But now, after making its first profit in 13 years, Clean Seas believes it could successfully grow commercial quantities of bluefin tuna, providing it finds the right partner with a decent-sized cheque book.
Chief executive Craig Foster said the company wouldn't restart the program if it meant risking its slim profit, which was $11.15 million after tax for the 12 months to June 30.
