Chilean fishery officials continue crackdown on illegal hake with two more seizures

Chile's National fisheries and Aquaculture division (Sernapesca) confiscated 14 tons of illegally caught hake in a sting that furthered a campaign to combat what is estimated to be a widespread black market for the fish across the country.
Sernapesca seized a majority of the IUU hake on Tuesday August 12 in trucks on Route 5 south from the Maule Region. Another bust was conducted this past Saturday on the Itata road in the Bio Bio Region.
Asipes supported Sernapesca's operation calling it a "major blow to illegal" fishing adding that Chilean officials are taking appropriate measures to combat a significant black market for hake in Chile...
