B.C.’s commercial fishing industry has been building capacity to handle this year’s forecast big sockeye run after being caught off guard by the record flood of the fish in 2010.
Commercial fishing — including seine, troll and gill netting of a variety of fish — accounted for more than $345 million in revenue in 2011, the most recent year of available statistics.
Much of the emphasis is on salmon, sockeye in particular...
