Chilean squid export values down 15% in 2013 facing stiff competition from US, other major exporters

Returns for exports of U.S. $ 70 million generated business-squid cuttlefish extracted on our shores-the end of last year, an amount that showed a drop from previous years. According to Customs data, provided by the National Fisheries Society (Sonapesca), one of the best years for the activity was 2011, with shipments of $ 117 million. In 2012, meanwhile, exports reached U.S. $ 83 million.
The industry agrees that they have low influence in foreign markets, where Argentina and Peru dominate.
