Seafood New Zealand says 'arbitrary' NGO list of unsustainable fisheries ignores sound science

Seafood New Zealand’s Chairman George Clement has blasted the Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) for its list of imported fish that the Society said consumers should avoid for not being sustainable.
Clement said the AMCS appears to have just gone through a list of imported seafood to arbitrarily warn people against most of it. He said the list lacks transparency and is void of any real fact checking or scientific assessment.
The Chairman cited the hoki fleets efforts to reduce seabird captures and its adherence to marine protected areas that prevents bottom trawling around a large swatch off New Zealand's coast...(more)
