Toyota backs global market expansion for Kinki Univerisity's farmed bluefin tuna

Toyota Tsusho Corp. said Wednesday it will expand its tuna farming project with Kinki University known for the world's first successful farming of bluefin tuna from eggs.
At present, baby tuna are transported mainly from the university's farm in Wakayama Prefecture, close to Osaka, to Nagasaki Prefecture, southwestern Japan, to be raised there for sale to tuna farmers. But some 50 percent of baby fish die during the transportation.
Aiming to eliminate such loss, the trading company in the Toyota Motor Corp. group has founded a new subsidiary in Goto, Nagasaki Prefecture, to grow fertilized eggs provided by Kinki University into baby fish and then into larger fish for shipment to farmers...
