Russian government considers significant increase of tuna production

The Russian government is considering a significant increase of tuna production in the coming years. Volumes substantially declined after the collapse of the USSR.
Until 1990s the USSR was one of the world’s leading countries in annual tuna production, however, due to a series of economical and political crisises in the country in the 1990s, the production of tuna in Russia practically ceased by 2000s, while most of local demand was met by the supplies of cheap canned tuna from abroad.
