Newfoundland's crabbers say better prices will likely offset marginally lower quotas this year

The 2013 snow crab season saw starting prices at $1.83 per pound. Opening on April 7, this year’s start price is up to $2.30 per pound, and that’s a lot more reasonable, said Derrick Brown.
“The price is good; I’m happy with the price,” said Brown, who captains the Newfoundland Navigator out of Summerford. “We’ve had higher prices in the past, but 2.30 per pound is good.”
Adding value to this season’s crab catch is a counteractive measure that will help even things out, he said.
