Canadian seal hunt resumes today, with gov't asking sealers to check that they have a market

Charlottetown, PEI - With 400,000 harp seals as their quarry, and a herd estimated at 7.4 million animals on the ice floes off Newfoundland and in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the much maligned annual Canadian seal hunt will be underway on Monday.
Department of Fisheries and Oceans ( DFO) personnel met with industry represntatives on April 11 to prior to a start for Monday, April 14. The DFO Notice to Mariners advises ".... Newfoundland and Labrador seal harvesters based in Sealing Areas 4 to 8 and 12 " could start taking harp seals at 6:00AM.
