WTO Misses Deadline to Rule on Mexico Appeal of Dolphin-Safe Label Dispute with the US

The WTO missed its 90 day deadline to rule on Mexico's appeal of its findings in the dispute over use of the 'dolphin-safe' tuna label.
This dispute has gone on for years, with Mexico winning court victories in the US, and a ruling in principle at the WTO, that the US tuna labeling group must allow Mexican tuna companies to use the 'dolphin-safe' label.
In the October ruling, the WTO found that the rules were justified as a conservation measure, even though they did violate other WTO norms.
Mexico appealed that ruling. The WTO said in a statement that it will not issue a final ruling in the US-Mexico "dolphin safe" tuna labeling dispute by its deadline.
