US Launches WTO Fight Over Indian Export Subsidies; Shrimp Trade Could Become an Issue

The US has launched a broad trade complaint against India at the WTO, claiming that various export subsidies that are allowed for developing countries are no longer applicable to India, but have been kept in place anyway.
"These export subsidy programs harm American workers by creating an uneven playing field on which they must compete," U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said in a media statement on the USTR website.
