Corrections to Adak Cod Story: Icicle Never Sent a Processor; Catcher Boats Made Trip from Dutch

Since our story on the NMFS closure of the BSAI Pacific cod trawl catcher vessel sector on March 4th, we received several emails attempting to correct our information.
First, NOAA clarified the various quotas in place. The closure on March 4th was for the entire BSAI Pacific cod trawl catcher vessel sector allocation of 29,768 mt. The Bering Sea portion of this quota was closed on February 11th, so that the remaining 5000 tons would be caught in the Aleutians.
Aleutian quotas include both the 5000 ton set aside for delivery to Adak shore plants, and a 6516 ton unrestricted quota to be used in the Western Aleutians. Icicle and other vessels were fishing on the 6516 ton unrestricted quota.
When the entire trawl sector quota was reached on March 4th, all trawl pacific cod was halted in all sectors.
However, pot and jig allocations continue to be available in the Aleutians..
