Maine Lobster Landings Fall Sharply in 2017 as US Total Supply Decreases

Maine’s 2017 lobster landings were released Friday, and while the landings for last year are the sixth highest on record, it’s also a sharp fall from 2016’s numbers.
The Department of Marine Resources reports that lobster landings for 2017 came in at 110,819,760, a 16% drop from the year before. In 2016 lobster landings were 132,536,606, which was a jump from 2015, which saw 122,663,393.
The loss of 22 million pounds of lobster was mostly felt in Canadian processing, where exports from Maine to Canada fell by 16 million pounds in the summer of 2017.
