Prince William Sound Pot Cod Fishery Opens February 15 With 150,000 lb Allocation

The Prince William Sound Pacific cod state-waters season for pot gear opened at noon on February 15, with a 148,812 lb allocation. The opening followed a 24-hour period to allow for deliveries after the federal Pacific cod pot fishery closed on February 14.
Of the 992,080-pound Guideline Harvest Level (GHL) for state-waters cod, 85 percent, or 843,268 lbs are allocated to vessels using longline gear and 15% or 148,812 lbs are allocated to vessels using pot or jig gear.
In the Central Gulf of Alaska (CGOA) federal fishery, the A season allocation for pot gear for catcher vessels and catcher/processors is 1,075 mt (2.4 mlbs) this year compared to 5,849 mt (12.9 mlbs) in 2017. The CGOA federal fishery still remains open for longline gear...
