FSIS Discontinuing Third-Party Hold and Test Sampling of Catfish

On Dec. 18, 2017, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) will be discontinuing third-party “Hold and Test” sampling and testing protocol for imported Siluriformes fish.
During the 18-month transitional period before the implementation of the USDA Catfish Inspection Program, FSIS conducted some testing on imported fish products that revealed “violative levels of drugs, pesticides, dyes, metals, nitrofurans or other chemical restudies.” The USDA agency began to require Importers of Record (IOR) ...
