SW Nova Scotia Lobster Season More Normal This Year, Quality Varies by Location

Preliminary indications are that this year’s SW Nova Scotia lobster season in LFAs 33 and 34 is less difficult for packers and shippers than last year. when by Christmas, some said it was the most challenging season they had seen in 35 years.
Pricing is generally in the $5.50 CA range, which is less than the $6.50 to $7.00 that was paid in December 2016. However, those prices were partly the result of a series of storms, cutting back fishing days.
On the market side, weakness in meat and in smaller whole cooks has meant processors are quite cautious. Some are not...
